Dystopian city

John looked around in the deserted roads filled with robots small and big. As he walked down the street slowly, he could smell the stale musty air. He could hear robots going up and down slowly monitoring his every move. The robots had different types of swords and guns. Some robots had malfunctioned and broke.  He looked inside the houses from the streets and saw blinds tightly shut. The people in the dystopian neighborhood were afraid of robots.

Walking down the street, John looked in his pockets and found some rubbish. He looked around the street in curiosity to find a bin. In the far distance, he could see a rubbish bin. Hastily,  he ran to the bin. As he came closer to the bin, he could smell the stench coming out of it. Not wanting to smell the stench, he accidentally missed throwing his rubbish into the bin. The rubbish dropped on the floor next to the bin. Suddenly, all robots around him started staring at him strangely.

As he walked, the robots followed him for every move. Getting scared, he ran as fast as he could. The robots quickly chased him, shooting their big guns. John dodged their bullets as he ran in a panic.

“Stop right there!” ordered the robots.

John quickly did a sharp turn to the right and ran into the alleyway trying to lose them. He looked left and right while running to see if the robots had disappeared. The street was quiet. Breathing hard, he decided to take a rest while looking out for the robots. Suddenly, he could see a big robot coming his way. He looked left-right at both ends of the alleyway, he was trapped. Big robots and small robots were blocking the entrance and exit of the alleyway. Bang! John fell down onto the floor lifeless. The neighbours opened their blinds to see the horror that happened.

Strategies that a country has adopted to stop the covid-19 spread

The coronavirus as known as Covid-19 has been around since January 2020. Countries such as France and Germany are still in lockdown as their increase in cases has accelerated in their second wave. However, some countries have shown success in virus containment. Taiwan is one of these countries. Taiwan has the best record of virus containment with less than 600 cases and seven deaths so far. Taiwan’s local transmission rate has been at zero for more than 200 days. This is due to their implementation of various strategies to stop the spread of covid-19.

The first strategy that Taiwan has implemented strict border control. They closed international borders in March and canceled all flights into the country. At the air and sea borders, there is rigorous surveillance of each person showing any symptoms. In addition, returning to Taiwan by sea or air must quarantine for 14 days. Quarantine means that she or he is not allowed to leave their homes or see anyone except visiting the doctor if they are sick.

Taiwan has also made wearing masks mandatory indoor and outdoor. To ensure everyone has access to masks, the government has given everyone reusable face masks. They have done this to prevent the spread of covid-19. In addition, masks production boosted from two million to 20 million in just six months. Already everyone in Taiwan has complied with this rulemaking this strategy successful.

Another strategy that Taiwan has adopted is contact tracing. They have one of the best contact tracing in the world. They have found over 150 close contacts in one case. All close contacts must have a 14-day quarantine. Due to this, there have been very few deaths all around Taiwan and the country has managed to stop the spread of covid-19.

The Taiwan government has implemented intensive public education on hygiene. They have taught the population about proper handwashing and wearing masks. Students are reminded to wear masks and using hand sanitizer. All schools that have the resources are following the rules. There have been very few students getting infected because schools are doing the right thing by protecting them.

These strategies that Taiwan has adopted to stop the covid-19 spread which is strict border control, mandatory masks wearing, effective contact tracing, and intensive public education are successful. I believe other countries could look upon Taiwan as a role model to contain the covid-19 virus.

Mysterious house

Two boys stood there in the entrance of the door looking out curiously. Strong mysterious winds blew in the house. Thick fogs covered the house. As they looked outside of the house, boulders twice as big as them floated around bobbing up and down. Objects floated around mindlessly in space. The heat from the sun blinded their eyes. They could smell the stale musty air around the house.
“What is this? How did we come here?!” questioned John to his brother as they looked outside of the house.

Walking up and down the hallway, John tried his best to remember. A few minutes passed, he quickly gave up thinking that there was no hope of him finding how he came here. After searching the house thoroughly one more time, he found a vase glowing. Curiously, John opened the vase and peeked inside. Suddenly, they got sucked through! Inside the vase, they saw weird animals as big as an elephant. The animals were floating around. After an everlasting time of traveling inside the vase, they saw a bright light at the end. “Ouch!” screamed his brother as he sat on a sharp end of a toy.

The rocket descended down from space at full speed. John curiously looked outside of the window. The deafening sound from the rocket as it hit the water like a wrecking ball in the pool. Steam surrounded the rocket in the water. “Where are we?” John asked his brother.

Smoking

Recently on the news, there has been a suggestion that smokers should be made to buy cigarettes with a prescription or at a pharmacy. People argued that this is a great way to eradicate smoking, but some argue that there are already measures in place to restrict smoking. In my opinion, I strongly believe that smokers should not be made to buy cigarettes at a pharmacy or to have the need to get a prescription.

No Smoking Metal Sign 450x300mm

If smokers have to get a prescription, clinics and hospitals will be filled with smokers trying to get a prescription for cigarettes. This will create inconvenience for sick people because they would have to wait longer to see the doctor. Seeing a doctor should be for the sick people not for someone trying to get a prescription. It will waste health care, resources, and create cost. If cigarettes are sold in a pharmacy, it would create a long queue and sick people would have a longer wait to get their medication.

There are existing laws on smoking to reduce the number of people buying and using cigarettes. The government has already ordered tobacco companies to put plain cigarette packaging and not be allowed to advertise. The cigarettes now display graphic images of the impact on smoking and warning to deter smoking and think twice. The government has also made it illegal for people under 18 to buy cigarettes. Cigarettes are already expensive by imposing a tax which would deter people from buying and smoking.

Recently, a law has been implemented to only allow smokers to smoke in allocated places. If smokers are allowed to smoke wherever they like it would be inconsiderate for the people who walk past smelling the stench of the cigarette. Smokers should be considerate of the people around them and the law has protected the people.

In conclusion, hospitals will be filled with smokers, there should be laws on smoking and they should only be able to smoke at an allocated place.

Truth at Botany Bay

I stood at the bank of Botany Bay, intensely looking at the Great European ships and boats come onto the harbour with my brother. Ships and boats of different sizes and colours started arriving, one by one. As the small boats reached the harbour, we stood around the bay looking at the strange-looking men on the boats in fear. They watched us from a distance on their boats, trying to find out who we were. Soon, they stepped onto our land holding something strange. Holding spears tightly in our hands, we were prepared if they were trying to harm us.

Suddenly, we heard a loud bang coming from one of the big ships near the harbor. In fear, we started to raise our spears to warn the strange people intruding on our land. The other Europeans quickly came onto the land holding guns and rifles and started shooting at us. I stood there watching blood flow out of my people’s heads. Fearing for my life, I quickly ran off and hid in a nearby secluded cave. Gunshots and shouting could still be heard in my refuge. I could hear the European’s footsteps coming closer with the clack of rifles.

Feeling anxious for my family and my relatives, I mustered my courage to go back to Botany Bay. After a few minutes, I reached Botany Bay where I saw many of my people killed and injured. My tears started flowing when I saw my brother lying lifelessly on the ground. Blood drenched the soil where they got killed. I looked around and saw tents filled with Europeans. Anger and horror filled me when I saw them  laughing and gathered around the firepit. Wiping off my tears, I ran to my friends as fast as I could and told them the bad news. I realised how powerful the Europeans were and decided to leave them alone. I felt terrified and helpless, not knowing what I could do to save my family and myself from these evil intruders.

Sinking Cruise Ship

One bright morning as the sun slowly peered over the horizon, Bob and his family of four boarded the cruise ship. They have been waiting for this special occasion for a long time. When they arrived at the port after a very long time of waiting, they boarded the cruise ship. The ship was as big as two blue whales.

Whey they got on they saw different types of activities they could play there. There was a spa, water slide, golf courses and a lot more. They first tried the water slide. It was at tall as a giraffe.
“This is so fun” Bob screamed in excitement as he went down the long water slide.

Suddenly a fire broke out in the kitchen. The fire spread quickly engulfing everything in its way. Everyone on the cruise ship started to panic and scream. Soon the fire had surrounded the pool with heat as hot as lava. Other passengers jumped in the freezing sea trying to escape from the burning ship.

Quickly, Bob splashed some water at the fire for them to escape the pool.
“Grab a life jacket and jump into the lifeboat”, Bob instructed to his family.

Bob and his family hastily got the life jacket as he instructed. Soon, their lifeboat got lowered into the sea by some of the crew members of the ship. Once they were lowered, they paddled and paddled with all their might. Looking back, they saw the humongous cruise ship sinking.

Suddenly a red helicopter came out of nowhere. “Help!”, they shouted trying to get the helicopter’s attention. Slowly, the helicopter came down. When they got on the helicopter, they, feeling exhausted, Bob drifted off the sleep wishing that this never happened again.

Busy city

John stood there looking at the busy streets. Cars, taxis and buses of different colours rushed pass him. Many people blowing out hot air in the cold winter days. Strong wind blew against him as if a big boulder hit him. Sirens and horning rang around his head deafening him. He could smell the polluted air as he tried to breathe in. Lights flashed from headlights and traffic lights partially blinding him. Quickly, he ran to the bus stop trying to ignore all the distractions. He quickly boarded the bus hoping he would never see it again. The bus darted away to the airport.

“Get me away from this”, he mumbled to himself.

Once John reached the airport, he heaved his bag all the way inside. Rushing to leave, he quickly checked in then seated down waiting to board the plane. He sighed in relief that he was going back home. John could taste the poisonous gas of the patrol from the airplane. A bright light beamed into his eyes almost blinding him. Finally after a few terrible hours of waiting he could board the plane.
“Finally!” he shouted to himself impatiently as he went on the plane in a hurry.

When John boarded the plane the captains and flight attendants greeted them kindly. He scurried along the airplane to find his seat. Once he found his seat he dropped down and started to sleep immediately. He was very tired and sleepy.  After a few hours of being on the plane, he suddenly woke up fresh and ready. He curiously looked out of the window of the airplane and saw that they were almost reaching his country. After the airplane landed he rushed outside and took a deep breath of pure country air.

Stray cat

One bright morning as the sun slowly peered over the horizon, Bob woke up feeling ready for a new day. Hungrily, he opened the pantry looking for some breakfast. When he opened the pantry, he saw that his family were running low on food to eat. Quickly, he told his mother that he will be going to the supermarket at the corner.

Bob and his mother hastily packed their bags. When he went outside of the house, he could feel the heat boil his skin. As he touched the handle of the car, heat penetrated through his body. After they parked their car in the car park, they walked to the supermarket.

When Bob and his mum were walking to the supermarket, Bob felt a pain in his left leg. When he looked down there was a stray cat biting his leg. Blood started pouring out like a waterfall.

“Ah! Someone help me!” he cried in pain.

Immediately, his mum called the emergency hotline. Bob frantically shook his leg but the stray cat clung on. He could see the sharp fangs of the cat piercing through his skin. More and more blood gushed out of his skin. The cat suddenly clings on to his leg with its sharp claws., exacerbating his current torment. The cat seemed worried and bit Bob even harder. The bright dark eyes of the cat stared at Bob intensely.

After an excruciating wait, the loud sirens of the ambulance grew louder as they came closer. The paramedic finally arrived to the rescue. Heroically, the removed the violent car off Bob. Not being able to walk, they brought him into the ambulance and hurried to the hospital. Worrying his mother went with Bob. After ten minutes they arrived at the hospital. Doctors and nurses quickly treated him and gave him antibiotics in fear of getting rabies.

After a few hours in the hospital, they finally came out. The doctor said that Bob could not walk for a week. Bob was going to be more careful when he went out. He did not want that to happen again. No one knew why the stray cat acted that way.

School canteens should be required to provide low-fat or vegetarian meals to accommodate the eating habits of all students over Australia

In Australia, more and more students are choosing to be vegetarian or low-fat meals. In my opinion, I strongly agree that school canteens should be required to provide low-fat or vegetarian meals to accommodate the eating habits of all students over Australia. Currently, only a handful of schools across Australia provide low fat and vegetarian food. There are many reasons why they should.

Firstly, all students should have the choice to choose what food they want to eat for lunch. School canteens should provide a choice of food to students. They should give different types of food like low-fat and vegetarian. Some students prefer to have healthier food.

Secondly, school canteens should be more inclusive because schools are getting more diverse. If school canteens provided more food like low-fat and vegetarian, they will feel like they belong in the school more.

Lastly, school canteens should provide more food because of the well- being and health of a student. If the Ndischool does not provide food like low-fat and vegetarian, students will feel sad and it will affect the wellbeing and health of a student, they might not do so well in class and cannot focus.

In conclusion, schools should give students the right to choose what food they want and they should also be more inclusive to students. This can also affect the well-being of a student. Schools should be required to provide low-fat and vegetarian lunches to accommodate the eating habits of all students in Australia.
